A powered gate is machinery. Under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 it must be risk-assessed, safeguarded, force-tested and supplied with a declaration of conformity. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act, whoever is responsible for the site has a duty to keep it safe in use. Most gates we are asked to inspect meet neither.
We carry out independent inspection and impact force testing with calibrated equipment, measured against the limits in BS EN 12453, and we report against the product requirements of BS EN 13241. You get a clear pass or fail per measurement point, the specific defects, and what closing each one requires.
This work matters most where the gate can be reached by the public, by residents, by children or by employees: schools, housing developments, apartment blocks, industrial estates and retail sites. If you are a landlord, managing agent, facilities manager or employer, this is the document that shows you discharged the duty.
Calibrated, not estimated
Force testing means measuring impact forces with a calibrated tester at defined points and comparing them to published limits. Anything else is an opinion.
Written to be used
The report names the defect, the standard it fails, and what the fix is. It is written so a facilities manager or insurer can act on it without an interpreter.
No obligation to use us
We will quote the remedial work, but the report is yours. Plenty of clients use it to get competitive prices, and that is entirely reasonable.
