Barriers

Barriers, Bollards & Traffic Control

Rising-arm barriers, automatic bollards and road blockers for car parks, service yards and sites that need vehicles managed rather than stopped.

Rising-arm barrier with traffic-light control on a two-way site access road

Not every entrance wants a gate. Where the requirement is throughput (a staff car park, a delivery yard, a retail site with abuse of its spaces), a rising-arm barrier moves far more vehicles far faster, and takes far less room to do it.

We install and maintain rising-arm barriers, automatic and semi-automatic bollards, retractable and fixed bollard lines, and road blockers. Barriers pair naturally with ANPR, ticketing and induction-loop detection, so access can be automatic for known vehicles and controlled for everyone else.

Where the requirement is genuine hostile-vehicle mitigation rather than access management, that is a different specification with impact-tested products to IWA 14 or PAS 68. We will tell you plainly which of the two you actually need, because the cost difference is substantial.

What this covers

  • Rising-arm barrier supply, installation and maintenance
  • High-speed and heavy-duty barriers for high-throughput sites
  • Automatic, semi-automatic and fixed bollards
  • Retractable bollard lines for pedestrianised and shared areas
  • Road blockers and impact-rated vehicle mitigation
  • ANPR, ticketing and loop-detection integration
  • Traffic lights, signage and pedestrian segregation
  • Foundations, drainage and civils for barrier installations
  • Car park and service yard access schemes
  • Servicing and emergency attendance for barrier systems

Throughput over obstruction

A barrier clears a vehicle in a couple of seconds where a sliding gate takes fifteen. On a busy car park that difference is the whole design.

Honest about impact rating

Access control and hostile-vehicle mitigation are different products at very different prices. We specify to the threat you actually have.

Civils included

Barriers and bollards live or die on their foundations and drainage. We do that groundwork rather than sub it out and hope.

Barriers we have installed

  • Large cantilever sliding gate closing an industrial access road, with a rising-arm barrier alongside
  • Red and white rising-arm barriers controlling a car park entrance, with pedestrian guardrail segregating the footway
  • Line of automatic rising bollards protecting a marked car park bay
  • Rising-arm barrier and mesh fencing at a controlled site entrance
  • Rising-arm barrier controlling the service road between two warehouse units
  • Barrier-controlled lane at a container terminal, with stacked shipping containers behind

Recent work

Related jobs we have done

  • Red and white barriers controlling a retail service road
    CommercialBirmingham

Car park barriers with ANPR for a retail park

    The brief
Persistent abuse of customer spaces by non-shoppers, with a requirement to keep genuine customer throughput fast at peak.
    What we did
Two high-speed rising-arm barriers with ANPR on entry, loop detection on exit and validation at the units. Vehicle clearance under three seconds at peak, and the abuse stopped within a fortnight.
  • Line of automatic bollards restricting vehicle access on a shared street
    CommercialManchester

Retractable bollards on a pedestrianised service access

    The brief
A shared pedestrian square needing timed delivery access in the morning and full vehicle exclusion for the rest of the day.
    What we did
Three automatic retractable bollards on a timed schedule with fob override for emergency services, plus signage and a warning beacon sequence. Deliveries land before 10am; the square is vehicle-free after that without anyone having to manage it.
