    Sliding gate on a continuous-duty distribution yard

    The brief
    A 9m cantilever sliding gate on a yard turning around 300 vehicle movements a day. The previous domestic-grade operator had failed twice in eighteen months.
    What we did
    Heavy-duty sliding operator specified to continuous duty, new ground track and drainage, induction loops for free exit and HGV detection, traffic lights on the pedestrian crossing point. Now on a quarterly maintenance cycle.

    Portfolio compliance survey across 34 gated sites

    The brief
    A managing agent inherited a portfolio of gated residential developments with no force-test records and no idea of its exposure.
    What we did
    Calibrated impact force testing to BS EN 12453 across all 34 entrances, pass/fail per measurement point, defects ranked by severity with costed remedials. 11 sites required immediate safeguarding work; the rest were scheduled over two quarters.

    Car park barriers with ANPR for a retail park

    The brief
    Persistent abuse of customer spaces by non-shoppers, with a requirement to keep genuine customer throughput fast at peak.
    What we did
    Two high-speed rising-arm barriers with ANPR on entry, loop detection on exit and validation at the units. Vehicle clearance under three seconds at peak, and the abuse stopped within a fortnight.

    Video intercom and app access retrofit, 48-flat development

    The brief
    A failing audio-only entry panel and a fob population that had been cloned so widely nobody knew who held access.
    What we did
    IP video door entry across all 48 flats, encrypted credentials issued individually, app access for residents and time-limited codes for deliveries. Legacy fobs revoked in one operation, with credential management handed to the management company.

    Non-compliant estate gates brought up to standard

    The brief
    Twin swing gates on a private residential estate, automated a decade earlier with no photocells, no obstacle detection and no documentation.
    What we did
    Retained the original leaves and posts, which were sound. New control boards with soft-start and current-sensing obstacle detection, photocells on both approaches, safety edges and a warning beacon. Force-tested and issued with a declaration of conformity for roughly a third of a replacement quote.

    Rural swing gates with solar-assisted operation

    The brief
    A farmhouse 180m from the nearest practical mains point, where trenching a supply to the entrance was quoted higher than the gates themselves.
    What we did
    24V DC underground operators on solar with battery backup, GSM video intercom on a mobile signal rather than a wired handset run. Full automatic operation with no trenching and no supply upgrade.

    Emergency callout: gate failed open overnight

    The brief
    A secure compound left wide open at 11pm after a control board failure, with stock on site and no manual securing in place.
    What we did
    Attended that night and the gate secured manually before we left. Diagnosis found the board had failed because a seized carriage bearing was overloading the motor. Replacing the board alone would have repeated the failure. Bearing, carriage and board replaced, force-tested and back in automatic service the next afternoon.

    Retractable bollards on a pedestrianised service access

    The brief
    A shared pedestrian square needing timed delivery access in the morning and full vehicle exclusion for the rest of the day.
    What we did
    Three automatic retractable bollards on a timed schedule with fob override for emergency services, plus signage and a warning beacon sequence. Deliveries land before 10am; the square is vehicle-free after that without anyone having to manage it.
